On November 9th of 2016, protests broke out on the streets of Detroit in response to Donald Trump winning the presidential election.
I happened to be out that night photographing the Democratic Party meeting at the MGM hotel when I heard there were protests starting on Woodward. I raced to the scene and ended up running alongside the crowd as one of the front line photographers the entire night. I was wearing overalls and flip flops, running as fast as I could to stay ahead of the crowd. When I reached the front I would turn around, stand facing the crowd, and remain still as people swarmed passed me, then sprint up ahead to the front line again.
I experienced so much passion that night from protestors of all shapes and sizes. It was truly one of the most exciting experiences of my life thus far and I’m so thankful to have had a part in documenting such a monumental night in history.
